IAN BRUCE NEWSLETTER   MARCH 03 SENT OUT 30/3/03

NOTE FROM EDITOR (Elaine Hawkins - editor@ianbruce.co.uk)

Ian was cutting it fine this month --- there is late and then there's LATE.
He is forgiven because I know how busy he has been and at least it's a good one with lots of news!

I managed to get to the gig in Birmingham last week. He was on top form and the gig was absolutely brilliant. A good mix of old and new songs. He sang the songs in the order that I wanted to hear them......spooky! Each gig I have seen has been different . He is always so entertaining with that stunning voice and his jokes and anecdotes. I tried to retell a joke about the rainbow, but with an English accent it just didn't work.

There have been some changes to the gig-list since the last Newsletter - the Uddingston gig is now 6/4/03 and the Potteries gig has been postponed from 11/4/03 to 14/5/04 - both problems with the venue. Several gigs in September in Germany have been added. A couple with Vic Besch.

Talking of Ian and Vic......my CD arrived last Thursday. I said in December that I had had a "sneak listen" to it and in January thought that I had heard all of it ....well I was wrong ! Can't tell you any more, 'cos I'll get told off...just wait and see! They are two very talented and funny guys!Any of Ian's CDs can be ordered by sending a cheque made payable to Ian Bruce for £13.75 inc postage (13.75 pounds sterling ) to Bob Gilchrist, Oscar Music Agency, 14 Inchmurrin Drive, High Burnside,Glasgow.

PS It's nice to be 17 again ! (He is 19 mths older than me!)

PPS perhaps he will include the video footage of the Riverside concert (Dec 2000) on the DVD ! Hint ! Hint!

IAN BRUCE NEWSLETTER      5pm 29/3/03

Hello March people!
Yes, March already. I can't believe how the time flies. They say it gets faster the older you get. I'm glad I'm only 19. They say one starts to lie more as one progresses in years. Not me.

March has been a satisfying month for me. The band tour in Germany went down well. Yes, I know I would probably say that anyway, but it did....honest. Sandy Brechin filled in for Ian Lowthian, whose wife, Janey, is very heavily pregnant at the moment. (Maybe she's given birth already, I don't know.) It was great to work with him. A real good guy although he got me drunk a couple of times. All his fault. Great to work with Iain Fraser again. As always, the gentleman, like myself.
The March solo gigs were good fun, for me, at any rate.

Studio things.
At last the Vic Besch / Ian Bruce CD has been sorted out and, although it's very simple, I'm pretty well pleased with it. I hope you'll like it. Those who bought the ones, with the original faulty covers, should receive their replacements soon. There's a book of addresses under a local paper mountain, on my immediate right. I'll get there sometime soon.

Janet Weatherston's CD has been accepted for release through The Living Tradition's Tradition Bearers series, and the new release from Lesley Hale and Charlie Milne has just arrived. I think it's great. The first release on Ruglen Records that is not mine. I feel very much a part of it though. I hope they don't mind me saying so.
The launch will be 11th April in The Pleasance Theatre Bar, Edinburgh. I look forward to that.
Agnes Wightman, a good friend, left the studio last night with a very contented smile on her face. Definitely nothing to do with her husband Tam. (A little joke) It's nice to be of service. She's made a very nice wee CD.
I'm hoping for quite a bit more work and will push for it when Tony and I move to our bigger house, which now seems very much on the cards.

So, all ok here, having just networked my computers, added two flat screens to the studio one and put a DVD burner in the other. So technical. That should mean that the next Naked Truth that I keep threatening could be a DVD. Scary or what? You can let me know.

It's Mother's Day tomorrow, and the first for me without mine. I'm missing her very much but getting by, very much due to my HUSBAND, Tony. I hope she'll have a great day wherever she is.

Anyway, I'll now hand over to my trusty friend and web site helper, Elaine, to tell you, and me, about where I'll be soon.

Keep well.

NOTE FROM EDITOR (Elaine Hawkins - editor@ianbruce.co.uk) Ian certainly has been updating the site. I had seen the previous updates, but I looked tonight and it's changed since Thursday! The address is www.ianbruce.co.uk. {Another Ian Bruce has ianbruce.com and ianbruce.net - how dare they !}

IAN'S NEWSLETTER 17/4/03

Hi All,

Very happy Easter to you all. I've put on 1.5 pounds in the last two weeks so, no chocolate eggs over the weekend for me.

I've just spent a load of time updating the website. Only current photos will be on there from now on and, there are aload of mp3s (sound files) should you want to hear some of what I've been up to over the last little while.

I've updated the Studio Page which was blank before but now it's chocker with info and bits of the CDs I've been recording for me and other folks. Give it a visit.

We'll be moving house over the next month so, it's perhaps fortuitous that I'm not very busy in May. I used to go to America in May but no agent at the moment. It's maybe also fortuitous, under the present circumstances.

Anyway, quiet for me, so, I'll look forward to the food parcels. Please remember that my diet is mainly fish and wine these days.

Have a good one.

Ian Bruce

IAN BRUCE NEWSLETTER  MAY 03   SENT OUT 29/5/03

NOTE FROM EDITOR (Elaine Hawkins - editor@ianbruce.co.uk)

I was stewarding at Chippenham Folk Festival at the weekend and managed to see most of Ian's spots - he was on good form and looking very sylphlike. You can see the proof next time - if he hasn't broken the camera (joke!). The web-site has been revamped and there is now a guestbook -- www.ianbruce.co.uk.

IAN'S NEWSLETTER 27/5/03

Hi,
It's not that I don't want to bore you with a long email, it's just that there's not much to tell.

On the music side of things, I'm just back from an enjoyable Chippenham Festival, which in my opinion, underused me. I like to be very busy at these things. Anyway, I know you lot won't complain. The more acts there are, probably the greater your choice.

On the personal front, we are up to our eyes in stuff. We've moved out of a small three roomed cottage in Dumfries, to a huge farmhouse in Castle Douglas.
How the hell did we fit all this stuff into that wee house. It, along with some new stuff, it's fair to say, has stuffed this big place up.
Anyway, no complaints. It's great and a wonderful place to have my studio. I hope I can encourage a lot of folks to use it.

Not much on at present have a nice summer and I hope we meet again soon.

Ian
